First day of job search class
Job search class starts today, most of the classmates are from mainland China, and poor me that I need to speak Mandarin with them, well this is a good chance for me to practice Mandarin. Today’s class was mainly focus on how the job market in Canada are like, and what is the way for job searching. Instructor said there will be so much less chance if we just applying job online, or through job ads. For I don’t have a good social network, the best way is to go directly to the job field which I’m interest to apply, and drop off the resume. There are some hidden job which never post out in the ads, online, and even don’t post a sign in front of the company’s door, so I need to overcome my shyness to ask if there are positions available. I like to apply a job at cinema, and I haven’t see any cinema positions available post through ads and website, so I tried to go to Silver City(the cinema) in person and ask a theater clerk( ticket seller) to see if here has position available, and the clerk said Yes, and I wrote an job application job and drop off the resume there. I felt like a jerk while asking because Silver City didn’t post out any ads of hiring people, but I tried of being stupid to ask and succeeded my first step. In Hong Kong, this maybe a little weird of looking job this way, but it is normal in Canada.

Before the class start, the HR manager of Juice store, Orange Julius, contacted me to see if I’m really interest of applying the position, and he said he would let other person to contact me for arranging an interview with me on later time. I told him to contact me after 4pm until my class is over, but I didn’t received any reply. Maybe I shouldn’t tell him to contact me at certain time because this might made him think that my time is not flexible for this position.
